The third season of Cross Egypt Challenge takes the country by storm.

Egypt to take part in the third season of Cross Egypt Challenge in a bid to promote tourism and give the world a glimpse of Egyptian hospitality.

 

The 2013 season of Cross Egypt Challenge began on Friday November 8th, 2013 and lasted for 9 days. The adventurers set out on a 2400km ride starting from Egypt's second largest city, Alexandria and heading south towards 6th of October city before making their way into the Western Desert and its majestic oases: Bahariya, Farafra, Dakhla and Kharga.

 

After four days in the Western Desert, the team rode eastward to Luxor from where they continued on until reaching the resort city of Hurghada. A coastal ride from Hurghada to Ain Sokhna ensued. The final leg of the journey took the riders to Cairo where the closing ceremony of the 2013 season of Cross Egypt Challenge took place at the foot of the Great Pyramids of Giza.

 

Adventure-loving scooter riders from twelve countries took part in this year’s challenge. These included: Brazil, South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Brunei, Greece, Romania, New Zealand and Egypt. This year’s team included six daring female riders.

 

Cross Egypt Challenge is a series of endurance scooter rallies conducted throughout the most challenging roads and tracks in Egypt. This breathtaking challenge is fascinating for spectators and riders alike. Through combining the best of adventure travel and extreme sports, Cross Egypt Challenge aims to promote tourism, and alternative sports in Egypt.

 

The initiative that is organized by Cross World Challenges and the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan began in 2011. Its first season covered a distance of over 1700 km with 15 participants from four different countries. For 2012, a longer and more challenging route was selected.

 

Ahmad Elzoghby, the official spokesperson of the challenge and a board member of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan stated: “Our focus is to offer adventure riders a chance to experience Egypt like never before. Each year we carefully design a new route that is both adventurous and challenging.” He added, “Cross Egypt Challenge is meant to bring global media attention to Egypt and to confidently announce that Egypt is safe for tourism.”
