The Famous Alex Chacon and Omar Mansour are to ride in the 2014 season of “Cross Egypt Challenge” this November.

Only two weeks left for Egypt’s one-of-a-kind motorcycle and scooter rally to kick off from the coastal city of Alexandria.


This November, more than sixty international adventure riders are going to participate in the fourth season of Cross Egypt Challenge. Throughout their nine-day journey, riders will uncover the mysteries of Egypt, experience a variety of terrains, and make lifetime friendships. The Cross Egypt Challenge organizing committee is working round-the-clock to insure the smooth progression of this year’s rally.


The fourth season of Cross Egypt Challenge will start on November 14, 2014 and will last for 9 days. The successful series will include a different and challenging route this year. The 2014’s 2950km route will start from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria with a huge launch event planned to take place at City Centre Alexandria; then pass by Egypt's capital, Cairo, make stops at Ain Sokhna, El Gouna, Marsa Alam before crossing the Egyptian Eastern Desert towards Luxor and Aswan before getting to the most southern attraction point in Egypt, the magnificent temple of Abu Simbel. From there the riders will ride North through the Nile Valley to visit Luxor and Assiyut before heading to the final destination of the rally this season and ending the journey in Cairo under the Great Pyramids of Giza.


This year the famous adventure rider Alex Chacon of Modern Motorcycle Diaries and the Egyptian Voyager Omar Mansour are riding in Cross Egypt Challenge. This season also includes riders from: USA, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Peru, Italy, Czech Republic, Mexico, India, Portugal and Egypt.


Ahmad Elzoghby, the official spokesperson of the challenge said: “It is quite challenging to ride few thousands kilometers on motorcycles and scooters in a challenging cross-country rally, especially if that involves different terrains; cities, deserts, mountains and oases. This year we are adding to the challenge and increasing the length of the route to 2950 km and including new and beautiful Egyptian destinations. The Cross Egypt Challenge is meant to bring global media attention to Egypt and to confidently announce that Egypt is safe for tourism.”

Cross Egypt Challenge is an international series of endurance motorcycles and scooter rallies conducted throughout the most challenging roads and tracks of Egypt, a breathtaking experience that is equally fascinating for spectators and riders alike.


Cross Egypt Challenge is the only organized cross-country rally of its kind in the entire region and combines the best of adventure travel and extreme sport. Each season of the endurance rally introduces a new route throughout the most famous spots of Egypt; a track that nobody ever thought could be done on motorcycles or scooters. The rally is organized by the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan with the cooperation of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, the Automobile and Touring Club of Egypt and under the supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of tourism.


The series started in 2011 and the first season was a 9 days rally from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the North of Egypt to the temple of Abu Simbel, on the southern borders of Egypt with a total distance of over 1,700 km.


The 2012 season included a 2,400 km route starting from Egypt’s famous capital and passing through the most exotic oases of the Egyptian western desert before ending the season in the world’s largest open-air museum, the city of Luxor.


The 2013 season of Cross Egypt Challenge also witnessed a 2,400 km route starting from Egypt’s famous coastal city Alexandria and passing through the Egyptian Eastern and Western deserts before ending under the Great Sphinx in Giza.


Last year participants from 15 different countries took part in Cross Egypt Challenge. This year a larger number of international and Egyptian participants have signed up for the daring challenge. Alex Chacon is a popular motorcycle adventure rider on a Modern Motorcycle Diaries around the world. He travels adventurously by motorcycle in different countries capturing every unique experience on video/web episodes/pictures to share with the world via his web page and social media while raising money for charity.


He is a graduate of the University of Texas where he graduated with Honors in Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition and Chemistry. Before beginning his doctoral studies he embarked on conquering his lifelong dream of traveling the world the most adventurously way possible by motorbike, committed to documenting his adventures while raising awareness and funds for charitable causes. Chacón has completed numerous trips in the past, all to raise money for charity.


His most famous expedition took him around the world, where he travelled 145,000 miles, through 34 countries, on 5 different motorcycles. He produced a stunning “Around the world in 360 Degrees” selfie film during his expedition that went viral on the Internet and social media with over 11 million views just in the past few months and still growing. Alex’s travels and expeditions were featured in in ABC International News, CBS News, Yahoo sports, YouTube Front page, in addition to hundreds other publications, TV interviews and newspaper articles.



Born in 1973, Omar Mansour comes from a famous Bedouin tribe in the west of Alexandria. Since his young age, he was passionate about motorcycle and travels.


By combining his two passions, he went on his first long journey around Egypt in 1996 for three months.


In 2011 he took off on his first international journey, where he packed his motorcycles and rode between Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Italy and finished in France. A couple years later, he went back to his finish line to complete his journey and include the rest of Europe.


In the following years he rode across the USA from North to South, west to East and through Europe again. In 2007 he was the first Egyptian and Arab person to complete a trans-African tour and ride across Africa on a motorcycle. He started his journey from the most Southern pint in the black continent (Cape Agulhas) in South Africa and rode all the way to Egypt. A journey that took over three months and was conducted with a message of unity for all African nations “One Africa”.


Omar still goes on long journeys around the world, and he does motivational speaking at conferences and seminars. His travels were featured in National TV, press articles, newspapers, blogs and websites.
